Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on March 5. This year’s theme, “Go Light Your World” encourages us to look outside ourselves and spread light on the dark places around us. This Lenten season we are asked to renew Christ’s light within us, to shine brightly for all to see. We are called to act as Jesus and be a light to others, shattering the darkness around them. We do this through the disciplines of Lent: making time for prayer, giving to the poor, and providing service to others.
In Lent we explore how this light affects all aspects of our life. We take a closer, inward look at how we can light the world around us. Lent is the perfect time to find new ways to live a spiritual life through prayer and growth in our faith.
This year we are encouraged to find new ways to pray and “Go Light Your World.” Think about attending Stations of the Cross, spending an hour in Adoration with the Blessed Sacrament, or joining in the Taizé Prayer Service, all great ways to connect with our Lord. Find new ways of helping and more importantly connecting with the poor though volunteering at MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary, or working with St. Vincent de Paul, serving at a meal program, or even something as simple as visiting a shut in. Seek out new ways to serve others and light your world.
